- Is ChatGPT safe for schools? When a teacher types into a public AI chatbot, student data leaves the school and nobody checks the answers. Here are the real risks and the safer options.
- DPDP Act and AI in schoolsIndia's data protection law treats every student under 18 as a child. Here is what that means when your school brings in an AI tool.
- AI hallucination in educationAn AI can write a wrong answer in perfect, confident language. In a classroom that is a serious problem. Here is why it happens and how to reduce it.
- AI policy for schoolsYour teachers are already using AI. A short, clear policy tells them what is allowed, protects student data and gives you an answer for parents and the board.
- How to evaluate AI platformsEvery vendor says its AI is safe and accurate. These twelve questions help you compare platforms on facts, in four areas.
- What is sovereign AI?Sovereign AI is a simple idea with a formal name. It means your institution, not a vendor, is in charge of its AI and its data.
Short answer
ChatGPT can be used safely in a school only with clear rules. The main risks are student data being sent to an outside company, and answers that sound right but are wrong. Personal accounts carry the most risk. School plans reduce it, and on-premise AI keeps the data inside.
Read the guideUnder the DPDP Act, 2023, a school decides how student data is used, so the school is responsible for it, even when an AI vendor processes it. For students under 18 the Act asks for verifiable parent consent and restricts tracking and targeted advertising. Check every AI tool against these duties.
Read the guideAn AI hallucination is an answer that sounds correct but is false or made up. It happens because a language model predicts likely words and does not look up facts. In education you reduce it by grounding answers in trusted sources, validating them before they are shown, and keeping a person in the loop.
Read the guideAn AI policy for schools is a short document that says which AI tools staff and students may use, what data may be typed into them, who checks the answers and who is responsible. A good policy fits on two pages and is reviewed every year.
Read the guideTo find the best AI platform for a school or university, compare four things: where your data lives, how answers are checked, how it fits your systems, and what control you keep. Ask every vendor the same written questions and compare the answers side by side.
Read the guideSovereign AI is AI that an institution fully controls: where the data is stored, where the model runs, and who can change or see it. In education it means student and research data stay under the control of the school or university and the law of its own country.
